L Excellence 2020 contains 6 of the most prestigious Bordeaux Appellations. Packed in a wooden gift box, this set contains the following;
– AOC Margaux Château Cordet 2020 (13.5% vol) – Owned by Laurent Van Der Heyden, the vineyard spans across an area of 6ha. Planted on a terroir of pyrenean gravel soil, the average age of the wine is 20 years. This wine is a blend of 60% cabernet sauvignon, 20% merlot, 15% cabernet franc and 5% petit verdot. On the nose, grilled notes of mocha are present with floral hints. The palate has a good structure with gentle delicate tannins.
– AOC Saint-Julien Château Lalande 2020 (14.5% vol) – Owned by the Meffre family, the vineyards are situated in Saint Julien de Beychevelle. With a surface area of 10 ha, the souk consists of garonne grave. This wine is a blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon and 45% Merlot. Dark purple red with a violet hue, this wine is well structured. On the nose, distinct aromas of blackcurrant jam, blackberries and vanilla. The palate is well structured with ripe tannins. Notes of ripe berries, plums and mild spices lead through to a finish with convincing length.
– AOC Pauillac Château Gaudin 2020 (12.5% vol) – Owned by the Capdevielles family the vineyards span across an area of 11 ha. Planted on a terroir of limestone clay soil, the wine has an average age of 40 years. This wine is a blend of 75% cabernet sauvignon and 25% merlot. The nose presents aromas of ripe fruits with grilled notes. On the palate, tannins are presents for a well-balanced mouth.
– AOC Saint Estèphe Château Lalande de Pez 2020 (13% vol) – Owned by Jean-François Bouilleau, the vineyard spans over an area of 3.80 ha. Planted on a terroir consisting of limestone clay soil, the average age of the wine is 20 years. This wine is a blend of 45% Merlot, 50% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Petit Verdot. The palate is gourmet and concentrated, with delicious notes of jammed red fruits, complicated by slight brioche scents.
– AOC Pomerol Château La Croix St Vincent 2020 (14.5% vol) – Owned by the Leydet family, the vineyard spans over an area of 8.22 ha. Planted on a terroir consisting of sand mixed with fine gravel, with sediments of iron into the soil, the average age of the wine is 30 years. This wine is a blend of 83% merlot and 17% cabernet franc. The wine is dark red in colour, with notes of small red fruits, spices, herbs and vanilla on the nose. The palate has a beautiful structure and is well balanced, with soft tannins,
– AOC Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Château Puy Barbey 2020 (14.5% vol) – The vineyards are located in Saint Etienne de Lisse, in the south east of the appellation Saint Emilion. Planted on a clay-limestone soil, this wine is 95% merlot and 5% cabernet franc. This wine has creamy notes of oaken barrels, leading to sweet spices and black ripe fruits. Plenty of mineral notes with a very complex nose.
